# Why doesn't Telegram show notifications?

Usually it's one of two things: the bot wasn't added correctly, or you added an impersonator.

## The official Oh Dear bot

Make sure you're using the **official** Oh Dear Telegram bot:

- Username: `@OhDearAppBot`
- Display name: **Oh Dear** (with a space)
- Direct link: [t.me/OhDearAppBot](https://t.me/OhDearAppBot)

If the username or display name is different, you're talking to a lookalike. Remove it and start over with the correct bot.

## Connecting Oh Dear to a Telegram group

If you want notifications delivered to a group (most people do), here's the full flow:

1. In Telegram, create a new group.
2. Give it a name.
3. Add `@OhDearAppBot` to the group.
4. In Oh Dear, start setting up a Telegram notification channel. You'll see a command to paste into the group chat. Keep the Oh Dear screen open.
5. Paste the command into your Telegram group.
6. The bot replies with "Perfect! You should now save the Telegram notification settings at Oh Dear."
7. Back in Oh Dear, the setup screen confirms: "You've connected Oh Dear to Telegram."
8. Save the configuration in Oh Dear.
9. Use **Send test notification** from the channel's menu to verify the integration.

If the test doesn't arrive, double-check the bot is in the group (not just added as a contact) and that group members have notifications enabled.
