# EU-hosted, GDPR-compliant uptime monitoring

Every monitoring vendor's site says "GDPR compliant." Ask where your data is stored, and the answer is usually a US cloud and a link to a framework.

Oh Dear is a Belgian company. Your monitoring data is stored in Belgium on Combell, an ISO 27701-certified host, with a signable DPA, a public subprocessor list, and a straight answer to every question on this page.

## Where your data lives

Belgian servers, run by Combell

Data residency is a one-line answer here: your monitoring data, the check results, uptime history, sites, settings and team members, lives on servers in Belgium, run by Combell, certified ISO 27001 and ISO 27701. Performance metrics sit in ClickHouse Cloud's EU region.

Your DPO doesn't ask whether you have a GDPR page; every vendor has one. They ask **which company holds the data, and which courts can compel it.**

The full picture is public: every subprocessor, what it does, and where it runs. [See our subprocessors](https://ohdear.app/subprocessors).

## GDPR, concretely

The paperwork your procurement team will ask for

The documents your procurement review will want:

- A signable [Data Processing Agreement](https://ohdear.app/data-processing-agreement), ready to countersign.
- A public, current [subprocessor list](https://ohdear.app/subprocessors), no NDA required to see who touches your data.
- An EU data controller: Oh Dear is a Belgian company, subject to GDPR by default, not by adequacy decision.
- Data-subject rights handled from Europe: export, correction and deletion requests answered by the team that runs the service, in your timezone.

## Where the checks run from

Probes run worldwide; your data stays in the EU

**Uptime monitoring has to check your site from many places, that's the product.** Our probe nodes run on AWS, DigitalOcean and Vultr around the world, because your customers are around the world, and a check that only runs from Brussels can't see what a visitor in Singapore sees.

What GDPR governs is **where your data is stored and who controls it**, and that's Belgium. The checks visit your public site the way any visitor does; the results come home to the EU.

We won't pretend otherwise: probe nodes, backups and check reports run on AWS and DigitalOcean, so we don't claim immunity from the US CLOUD Act. What we can tell you exactly is where your monitoring data lives and who holds it. If a vendor says their global monitoring runs entirely inside the EU, ask what their checks can see from there.

## Used by European government bodies

Public-sector teams in Belgium and the Netherlands

Oh Dear monitors websites for official government bodies in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Public-sector procurement runs a strict data-residency review. They ask exactly what this page answers, and they get the same specifics every time: EU-stored data, a signable DPA, and a public subprocessor list.

## A European alternative to your current monitor

If you're replacing a US tool, start here

Teams land on this page mid-migration: a procurement review flagged Pingdom, UptimeRobot or StatusCake, and now someone has to find a European alternative that doesn't feel like a downgrade.

Oh Dear checks your sites every minute from multiple worldwide locations and combines uptime, performance, SSL, cron job, DNS, domain, broken-link and mixed-content monitoring in one tool, with a status page on your own domain on every plan.

Compare it to the tool you're leaving: [Oh Dear vs the competition](https://ohdear.app/oh-dear-vs-competition).

## An EU-native stack, not a retrofit

European by default

The tools running Oh Dear are largely European too: hosting at Combell (Belgium), performance metrics in ClickHouse Cloud's EU region, error tracking by Flare (Belgium), newsletters via Mailcoach (Belgium).

Being an EU-first product isn't a compliance project we bolted on. It's where we live. 🇧🇪

You can see the complete list, US subprocessors included, on our [subprocessors page](https://ohdear.app/subprocessors).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Oh Dear GDPR compliant?

Yes. Oh Dear is a Belgian company, so GDPR applies to us by default rather than through an adequacy framework. You get a signable [Data Processing Agreement](https://ohdear.app/data-processing-agreement), a public [subprocessor list](https://ohdear.app/subprocessors), and your monitoring data is stored in Belgium on Combell, a Belgian host certified ISO 27001 and ISO 27701.

### Where is my monitoring data stored?

In Belgium (EU), on servers run by Combell. Performance metrics are stored in ClickHouse Cloud's EU region. The full storage picture, including where backups and check reports live, is on the [subprocessors page](https://ohdear.app/subprocessors).

### Is Oh Dear hosted in the EU?

The company, the team and your stored monitoring data are in the EU. The monitoring checks themselves run from probe nodes around the world, on purpose: a monitor that only checks from Europe can't tell you what your visitors elsewhere experience. The results come back to Belgium.

### Can EU public-sector and government bodies use Oh Dear?

Yes. Oh Dear offers a signable Data Processing Agreement and answers data-residency questions with specifics rather than a link to a framework, which is exactly what a procurement review asks for.

### Does Oh Dear sign a DPA?

Yes. A standard, signable [Data Processing Agreement](https://ohdear.app/data-processing-agreement) is available to every customer, no enterprise plan required.

### What's included in Oh Dear's EU-hosted monitoring?

Every plan includes the full toolset: uptime checks every minute from multiple worldwide locations, plus performance, SSL certificate, cron job, DNS, domain, broken-link and mixed-content monitoring, and a status page on your own domain. Plans start at $17/month for up to 5 sites & servers, with a 10-day free trial and no credit card required.
