# How is Oh Dear different from other website monitoring software?

Most tools answer one question: is the site up? Then you bolt on a second for SSL, a third for DNS, a cron pinger, a broken-link crawler, a speed auditor. Oh Dear does all of it. One tool, one bill.

the quick verdict **Choose Oh Dear** if you want uptime, SSL/TLS, DNS, full-site crawling, cron checks and Lighthouse in one place, with unlimited users and one predictable bill.

**Choose UptimeRobot** if all you need is the cheapest basic up/down ping and a free tier, not full-site crawling or on-call.

**Choose Better Stack** if native on-call scheduling and incident management is your number-one priority.

**Choose Pingdom** if real-user (RUM) page-speed analytics from an established hosted monitor is what you are after.

**Choose StatusCake** if you want a generous free tier and the lowest-cost basic uptime.

**Choose Site24x7** if you need full-stack infrastructure, server, network and APM monitoring, not just websites.

**Choose Uptime.com** if you need enterprise synthetic transactions, RUM and global probes at scale.

**Choose Uptrends** if you want a mature enterprise uptime suite with multi-step transactions and global checkpoints, and per-seat pricing is not a blocker.

**Choose Datadog** if you are already all-in on Datadog for APM, logs and infrastructure and want synthetic uptime in the same usage-billed platform.

What only Oh Dear does

## Three things the others make you bolt on

### 1. Crawls your entire site

We read your sitemap and check every page for broken links and mixed content, daily. Every alternative we checked monitors single URLs only.

### 2. Truly unlimited users

Unlimited users, status pages and notification destinations. You only pay per site. Every hosted alternative charges per seat or caps status pages.

### 3. One tool, one bill

Uptime, SSL, DNS, cron and Lighthouse together. Stop stitching five subscriptions into one workflow.

## Oh Dear compared with the competition

One table. Honest, where an alternative genuinely leads, we say so.

Being honest

## When a competitor is the better call

We'd rather you pick the right tool than churn in month two.

UptimeRobot

### Cheapest, generous free tier

Best for solo devs and small teams who want very affordable uptime, SSL and cron with a real free plan, not full-site crawling or on-call.

Better Stack

### On-call & incident management

Best if 30-second checks plus native on-call scheduling and incident management (replacing PagerDuty) is your number-one need.

Pingdom

### Real-user speed data

Best for an established hosted monitor with global polling and proprietary page-speed plus real-user analytics across heavy traffic.

StatusCake

### Low-cost uptime & free tier

Best for a generous free tier and mixed-content SSL on a budget, when basic uptime is all you need.

Site24x7

### Full-stack infrastructure

Best for IT, DevOps and MSPs wanting one platform for sites, servers, network, cloud and APM, with built-in on-call.

Uptime.com

### Enterprise SRE platform

Best for synthetic transaction checks, global probes and SOC2/SSO when you are an SRE team at scale.

Uptrends

### Enterprise transaction monitoring

Best for enterprises wanting mature multi-step transaction monitoring and a large global checkpoint network, with budget for per-seat plans.

Datadog

### Full observability platform

Best if you already run Datadog for APM, logs, metrics and infrastructure and want synthetic checks alongside them, with usage-based billing you are happy to manage.

Why we built it this way

## One tool instead of five

Every monitoring tool started by answering one question: is the site up? Then the questions kept coming. Is the SSL certificate about to expire? Did a DNS change break email? Did last night's deploy leave forty broken links? Did the nightly backup cron actually run? Is the homepage still fast?

Most tools answer one of those and sell you an integration for the rest, or leave you running a second, third and fourth subscription. You become the integration layer, stitching alerts from five dashboards.

Oh Dear watches your whole website from one place, so the thing that breaks at 2am is something you already had a check for.

That's what the table really shows. It isn't that the others can't check uptime, everyone checks uptime. It's that everything *around* uptime is where sites actually break, and that's the part we refused to make you assemble yourself.
