Content Marketer

Remote, anywhere Freelance, part-time or ad-hoc Flexible, project-based

Oh Dear has a strong reputation in the Laravel community. Developers who know us, love us. But here's the thing: most developers who'd benefit from Oh Dear haven't heard of us yet.

Ruby developers, Node.js teams, DevOps engineers, CTOs at growing startups - they all have websites that go down, certificates that expire, and links that break. They just don't know we exist.

We need someone who can help us reach these audiences. Not through spammy tactics or hollow growth hacks, but through genuinely useful content, smart advertising, and building relationships with the broader developer community.

If you can think strategically about growth while also crafting a great tweet, keep reading.

What you'll do

  • Run and optimize our online advertising - Google Ads, Reddit, Twitter/X, and wherever else our audience hangs out
  • Write compelling copy for blog posts, social media, landing pages, and email campaigns
  • Create and pitch guest posts for other platforms - high-quality content that earns links and builds our reputation
  • Engage with our community on social media - reply to comments, join conversations, keep our channels feeling alive
  • Improve and expand our documentation, FAQ pages, and help content - making sure everything matches our tone and ranks well
  • Come up with fresh marketing ideas - we're open to experiments if you can make a good case for them

What we're looking for

This role spans advertising, content, social, and SEO. We don't expect you to be world-class at all of them - but we need someone who's genuinely good across the board and excellent at the writing part.

  • A portfolio of writing we'll actually enjoy reading — show us blog posts, ad copy, docs, tweets, whatever demonstrates your range.
  • Experience marketing to developers — you understand that developers hate being marketed to, and you know how to earn their attention anyway.
  • Fluent English — our communication, content, and customers are all English-first.
  • Strategic thinking — you don't just execute tasks, you think about what will actually move the needle.
  • Self-directed — we'll set goals together, but you'll figure out how to hit them. You don't wait for instructions.

Bonus points

  • Technical background — if you've built websites or worked in web development, you'll understand our product and customers at a deeper level.
  • Care about web quality — our customers take pride in building great online experiences. If that resonates, you'll write better copy for them.
  • CET timezone overlap — we're based in Belgium, so some overlap with European hours makes collaboration easier (but we're flexible).

How to apply

If this sounds like your kind of project, send an email to [email protected] with:

Your best work - links to projects where you're genuinely proud of the result
A critique of Oh Dear - sign up for a trial, poke around, and tell us what you'd improve (be honest, we can take it)
Why this project - what about what we've described here resonates with you?
Your availability and rate - let's make sure we're in the same ballpark

Skip the generic cover letter. We'd rather see how you think than read about your "passion for excellence."
